Dress up, Make a Wicked Cake, and Get Dead.

I wanted to squeeze in one last Day of the Dead inspired post, because it’s one of my favorite holidays. There are so many things I love about this holiday; the colors, music, decorative sugar skulls, candles, beautiful alters, remembering people and pets whose souls have moved on, and of course getting dressed up. Happy times.

I made a Day of the Dead cake decorating tutorial video last year. It covered several chocolate decorating techniques including chocolate cut-outs, the use of chocolate transfer sheets, and molding a chocolate skull.

Crystallized flowers are peachy for cake decorating and dessert garnishing, especially when embellished with chocolate.

My favorite part of making this tutorial was finding the amazingly perfect Daylily flowers from Crystallized Flower Company. These are real, naturally grown edible flowers preserved with sugar, and are great for decorating cakes, cupcakes and dessert garnishing. I added a chocolate touch by piping chocolate stamens, and inserting then in the centers of the flowers. I LOVE the way this looks! More on these incredible flowers on a future post.
